“Opto2018 Symposium on Photon and Beam Science” Held

The Osaka University Institute of Laser Engineering aims to open its door to the science community to create new academic and innovative technologies and foster innovation by exploring the unknown universe through laser technology. In October 2009, the National Institutes for Quantum and Radiological Science and Technology (QST) Kansai Photon Science Institute (KPSI), strengthened the cooperation between the two organizations with the common objective of pursuing research on light and quantum beam science. We exchanged a memorandum to promote the development of related technology and its applications to accelerate progress in the field. With this in mind, we have agreed to hold a joint symposium to be organized by both institutions as a form of joint research study meeting since last year. This year, the meeting was held and hosted by KPSI. In addition to the reporting of results of the collaborative researches conducted by both organizations, Professor Toshiyuki Shirai of the Institute of Radiological Sciences, National Institute of Radiological Sciences gave a special lecture on the development of quantum devices for cancer treatments. We were able to exchange ideas and information on diverse topics.
In addition, Osaka University has given the International Kondo Prize award (Osaka University Kondo Prize) to honor the achievements of young scientists, from home and abroad, who recently contributed to the laser science of our country. This year it was awarded to two overseas researchers.
