Prof. Hangyo passed away on 25 Oct. 2014.

 萩行正憲先生(大阪大学レーザーエネルギー学研究センター副センター長、教授)におかれましては、2014年10月25日に持病の喘息による急性心機能不全のため61歳で急逝されました。

 先生は、物理学の一分野である物性実験の研究において、特にレーザーを用いたテラヘルツ波発生・テラヘルツ波工学、メタマテリアルの分野にて、世界の中心の一つとしてご活躍されました。世界で初めて高温超伝導体によるテラヘルツ波放射の観測に成功したのをはじめ、テラヘルツ波による物性計測・応用研究、フォトニック結晶やメタマテリアルの先端的研究分野で多くの業績を上げられました。

 国内でのテラヘルツ研究の進展や、企業をはじめとする民間への普及・啓発活動にも積極的に関わり、テラヘルツテクノロジーフォーラム会長を歴任されるなど、当分野の発展のため大きな貢献をされました。

 着任以来34年にわたり、大阪大学において教育と学問の発展のために尽くされるとともに、先生は多くの門人を輩出されました。これらの研究活動と教育は国内にとどまらず、研究交流と啓発を通じて、世界に活躍する多数の優れた研究者を育てられ、テラヘルツ研究の国際的な発展に大きな足跡を残されました。
