The large deformable mirror for Osaka University’s ultra-high-intensity laser system, LFEX, has been delivered as a part of the framework of industry-academia collaboration between Osaka University and Blue Laser Fusion Inc. to research and develop laser fusion energy. This large deformable mirror is an important optical element that compensates for wavefront turbulence in the laser beam and increases the focused intensity of the laser. “We have high expectations for Osaka University’s fusion research utilizing the large laser,” Shuji Nakamura, CEO of Blue Laser Fusion Inc. said. This large deformable mirror will have been installed in LFEX by the end of 2024 and is expected to achieve the world’s most high-intensity kilojoule-class laser.
