4th IAEA-TM on Physics and Technology of
September 13, 2007
Abstract template (word)
The Institute of Laser Engineering (ILE),
1) Purpose
In the field of laser fusion research, big
projects aiming at ignition and burn on a single-shot basis have started in
many countries. Demonstration of the
technology for an integrated reactor system, including repetitive target
injection, tracking and engagement, is the next milestone leading towards
inertial fusion energy (
The International Atomic Energy Agency plays a pro-active role to catalyze innovation and to enhance worldwide commitment to fusion. To contribute to activities of the IAEA, the ILE will host the IAEA-Technical Meeting on “Physics and Technology of IFE Targets and Chambers” jointly with the 5th International Conference on Inertial Fusion Sciences and Application (IFSA) taking place in Kobe, Japan, September 9-14, 2007. The purpose of the
Technical Meeting is to review the progress and the perspectives in realizing
The scope of this meeting covers the following
areas in physics and engineering related to
Physics related to reactors and reactor
design
Target fabrication focused on mass
production
Target injection and tracking
2) Technical Sessions
The technical program will consist of an invited oral session and a
contributed poster session. These
sessions are scheduled on Sep. 13, 2007, are within “Category II (Fusion
Technology) of IFSA2007, and are composed of “IFE
Reactors” and “Target Fabrication”.
The meeting will provide an opportunity for formal and informal
discussion. The authors are
encouraged to submit their full papers to Nuclear Fusion.
2) Organization
Prof. Dr. Kunioki Mima, Director of the
3) International program committee
Program Committee Chair ; T. Norimatsu, ILE,
4) Expenditures and financial support
No registration fee will be charged by the
IAEA for participants to the Technical Meeting. Host services such as
accommodation, meals, social programmes, etc., are to
be arranged between participants and the Host. As a general rule, the IAEA does
not pay the costs for attendance at the meeting (i.e. travel and living
expenses) of participants. However, limited funds are available to help meet
the cost of attendance and participation of a few selected specialists mainly
from developing countries with low economic resources. Generally, not more than
one grant will be awarded to any one developing country. The grants awarded
will be in the form of lump sums usually covering part of the cost of
attendance.
If governments wish to apply for a grant on
behalf of one of their specialists, they should address specific requests to
the IAEA Scientific Secretary at the International Atomic Energy Agency to this
effect. Governments should ensure that applications for grants:
a) are received by
the IAEA before 25 May 2007.
b) are accompanied
by a duly completed and signed Grant Form C and an estimate of the flight costs
from/to their country and
c) the participant
has an accepted contribution.
Applications that do not comply with the
conditions mentioned above will not be considered.
Awards will be announced around 15 June
2007.
