MOU Renewed with Technical University of Madrid

On July 17, 2025, Professor Belarde, Director of the Guillermo Velarde Institute of Nuclear Fusion (IFN-GV) at the Technical University of Madrid, visited the Institute of Laser Engineering (ILE) and signed a renewed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with our institute.

IFN-GV is the home institution of Professor Perlado, a specialist in fusion reactor engineering, and has a long-standing history of collaboration with ILE dating back to the 1990s. About five years ago, the previous MOU concluded following Professor Perlado’s retirement, and active collaboration came to a pause. However, thanks to Professor Belarde’s strong initiative and dedicated efforts, the MOU has now been successfully renewed.

IFN-GV conducts research in areas such as reactor engineering, plasma physics, atomic physics, and nuclear physics, and is home to approximately 30 researchers.

This renewed agreement is expected to further strengthen the collaborative relationship between Japan and Spain in the field of nuclear fusion research.
