BRIN and Osaka University’s Institute of Laser Engineering Sign MOU – Strengthening Collaboration in Terahertz Research –

On April 20, 2026, the National Research and Innovation Agency of Indonesia (BRIN) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Institute of Laser Engineering (ILE), Osaka University, to promote collaboration in the fields of terahertz science and photonics.

This partnership is expected to further enhance joint research outcomes and accelerate innovation in optics and advanced materials. It will also contribute to strengthening the international competitiveness of both institutions, while supporting the future development of electronic devices and communication technologies.

A key component of this collaboration is the emphasis on human resource development. The two institutions will promote researcher and student exchange programs, joint supervision, training, and capacity-building initiatives to foster the next generation of scientists.
In the area of research, both sides will advance studies utilizing terahertz spectroscopy, quantum measurement, and laser-plasma technologies, with a focus on advanced materials, including organic materials. In particular, collaboration between Professor Makoto Nakajima’s expertise in terahertz-wave technology and Professor R. Yudianti’s work in polymer materials science is expected to drive the development of next-generation communication materials.

Through this MOU, both institutions aim to further strengthen research activities in laser applications and materials science, paving the way for new scientific and technological advancements.
